WARS OF THE ROSES EXPERIENCE FOR ARCHAEOLOGY CLUB
26 March 2010
Over the last few weeks club members have...

learnt about careers in archaeology and heritage;  heard about excavation of skeletons; identified and put together ,(mostly correctly!)  a replica skeleton... and after school yesterday they were visited by Helen Cox, Medieval re- enactor who gave them a feel for the Wars of the Roses and, in particular, the Battle of Towton. They tried on kit and handled weaponry.

This timely visit coincides with the anniversary of the Battle and a commemorative event is held each Palm Sunday on the Battle field. Interest was more than seeded and some members hope to persuade their families to make the journey down the A1 this Sunday.

Last year, Kevin worked with Helen and Yr 5/6 children from South Milford Primary School on a 3 day Time Travellers project. The school is situated only a few miles from the battlefield. They visited the Department of Archaeological Sciences at Bradford University to view the Towton skulls and hear from experts.

The project was featured in NY Times. Click here to view May 2009 issue.
